How a Brazilian Steel Fabricator Increased H-Beam Drilling Efficiency by 5 Times for Bridge Construction Projects
As Brazil continues to invest heavily in bridge construction and infrastructure modernization, steel structure manufacturers are under increasing pressure to deliver high-quality components faster while maintaining strict accuracy standards. One of the biggest challenges facing fabricators is the slow drilling process of large H-beams, which often leads to production bottlenecks, high labor costs, and inconsistent hole positioning.
To address these challenges, a leading Brazilian steel fabricator recently introduced the High Speed CNC H Beam Drilling Machine from Jinan Auten Machinery Co., Ltd. The solution significantly improved productivity and helped the company meet growing project demands in the bridge construction sector.

Designed specifically for structural steel processing, the machine is capable of handling H-beams ranging from 100 × 100 mm to 700 × 500 mm, with workpiece lengths up to 12,200 mm. Equipped with three independent BT40 high-speed drilling spindles, the system can simultaneously process multiple surfaces of the beam, dramatically reducing cycle times compared with conventional drilling equipment.
The machine features spindle speeds ranging from 100 to 3,000 rpm and supports drilling diameters from Ø5 mm to Ø30 mm. Combined with high-performance carbide drill technology, it delivers exceptional cutting performance and stable machining quality even when processing thick structural steel sections.
One of the key advantages reported by the customer was the significant increase in drilling efficiency. Traditional drilling systems often require approximately 43 seconds to complete a single hole, while the high-speed CNC solution reduced drilling time to as little as 5–6 seconds per hole. This represents more than a fivefold increase in productivity, enabling the manufacturer to accelerate project delivery schedules.

Accuracy was another critical factor. Thanks to its servo-driven positioning system, precision ball screws, and high-rigidity machine structure, the equipment achieves hole distance accuracy of ±0.5 mm within one meter and end margin accuracy of ±1.0 mm. These capabilities help ensure consistent assembly quality for large bridge steel components.
Additional features such as automatic CAD-based programming, row-type tool magazines with 12-tool capacity, aerosol cooling technology, and automatic chip breaking further enhance operational efficiency while reducing labor requirements and tooling costs.

With a total installed power of approximately 52 kW and a fully automated feeding and positioning system, the machine has become a valuable asset for high-volume steel fabrication operations. The customer reported improved throughput, reduced production costs, and greater competitiveness in the rapidly growing infrastructure market.
As global demand for steel bridges, transmission towers, and prefabricated buildings continues to rise, advanced solutions like the High Speed CNC H Beam Drilling Machine from Jinan Auten Machinery Co., Ltd. are helping fabricators achieve higher precision, faster production, and sustainable business growth.
